Sleeping on the plane

Trying to get visa picture

How he stopped crying

Medical exam

We flew out of Changsha yesterday. Amy drove us to the airport at 4:00pm. We waited in the airport until our plane took off at 8:05pm. Matthew was so tired. He DID NOT want to sit in his own seat - he is glued to my arms - and he started screaming and carrying on. I asked the flight attendant if I was allowed to hold him during take off - she said there was no problem with that. As soon as I picked him up, he stopped his crying. He fell asleep once we were in the air. He woke up as we landed. He was very good the entire flight. We got to the airport and our bags were the first ones on the conveyor belt. That was good because we were all very tired. We met Rosa, who was also our guide for Sarah's adoption. She said neither Dave or myself have changed since 2005. I beg to differ, though - we look much older!!!! It was a nice compliment, though! We arrived at our very fancy hotel at 10:00, setled in and called Sarah. The reception is not as good here, because it was very staticlike. Is that even a word? I'm getting very tired!!! We put Matthew in his pjs and asked the main desk for a toddler potty. They don't have them here! Maggie, our other guide, also our guide during Sarah's adoption, came to our room to try to help us. Apparently, we now have to hold him over the big toilet. He doesn't like that, but he did go - so he is still potty trained! Matthew fell asleep by 11:15pm. Dave ordered room service at 11:15 - a cheeseburger and fries. I sampled the fries, but even they tasted like Chinese noodles to me! Dave said the burger is not quite like American burgers. Who knows what type of meat it is, though!! LOL!!! Did I mention that yesterday Dave ate some pork knuckles for lunch? Anyway, this morning, we woke up and went to have breakfast. It is on the 45th floor that revolves so you have a nice aerial view of Guangzhou. We met others in our group - finally! Afterwards, we met back in the lobby because we had to get our kids to the medical exam and visa picture. Matthew didn't want his picture taken so he cried. I had to scoot under him to stop him from crying as I am not allowed in the picture. People think it's very cute how he stops crying once I pick him up. I'm finding it getting a bit old. He wants NOTHING to do with Dave anymore. Dave can't even rub his belly without Matthew screaming. He shakes his head no whenever Dave tries to carry him, he kicks and beats his fist on Dave. Not me though. He prefers to be held by me at ALL times. I can't even go to the restroom without having him scream in Chinese, "Mama come back." We know that's what he is saying because that was what he was crying Monday when we got him. Amy translated it for us. Anyway, as long as I hold him, he is one happy boy! During the medical exam, he was a trooper. Others were crying and carrying on. Matthew was pretty good, until the doctor gave him a TB test and check his private areas. Matthew weighs 24.7 pounds and, I think they said he was 20 inches tall, but I could be very wrong about how tall he is - have I mentioned I'm very tired? Once all the families finished the medical exam, it was back to the hotel room to complete more paperwork. We thought it would be best for Dave to go do the paperwork so matthew wouldn't scream and carry on for me. After that, we are going to dinner at ---- Pizza Hut!!!!!! Tomorrow we are going to Shaimen Island for shopping! Monday we go back to the medical exam to get the TB results and check out the vaccinations. Tuesday we have the Consulate appointment. Wednesday will find us saying goodbye to some families, and more shopping. Thursday will bring us on back to America!!!
