While travelling from Montevideo to Buenos Aires we spent an afternoon in the picturesque colonial town appropriately named Colonia. It was fonded in 1680 by the Portugese and was a major centre for smuggling goods into Argentina. It is a UNESCO heritage sight as its colonial buildings and reconstructed city walls are some of the best in South America. We enjoyed a warm fall afternoon strolling its cobblestone streets as we waited for our boat to Argentina.
