As with all new experiences, I always like to try things first to make sure that I can accomplish them and then challenge my son to do the same thing. Perhaps that's overprotective, but it's what I do.
So.....let's see how this thing does in the mountains.
Cow makes a reservation while I'm still at work. Home, hook-up, leave. All in all pretty smooth!
While getting on I-85S / I-40W in Greensboro, she says that she's made reservations for Asheville West....HOLY COW! Can we go through the piedmont first and then try Black Mountain! I was a nervous wreck. Let's not do this, let's not do this.....I'm really no looking forward to coming down the mountain on Sunday. This, to the point that I make her call the campground and try to get a refund.
The lady at Asheville West is apologetic, but cannot refund the deposit. She can however put the money on account and will honor it when we do decide to make it to their campground. That was nice!
Okay, so now where? We end up staying at Statesville off of I-77. Well tugging this new camper on the Interstate is really a joy. No sway, no wind buffeting, nothing. Point and steer and she follows right along.
Well, we booked a place which on KOA's website for North Carolina is Kampground Number 12. (We'll make it back to check out 14 in Eastern Statesville one day.)
No cable. Aargh. Trip to Wally World to get a converter box. Mediocre television stations available. No worry, we've got plenty of stuff to do. Put things away and reorganize.
Folks, if you haven't cleaned out your RV lately. You need to set aside a few days and go through the stuff you're toting around. Geez.
Best part of the weekend? New Italian eatery we found in the nearby town! Oh, my. It was to die for.
Anyway, we'd recommend this if you were traveling, not a good park for weekend family fun though. Quite outdated.
Stayed in Campsite Number 6.
