Today we visited a different section of the Glacier National Park. This time we went to West Glacier and Lake McDonald. This section of US 2 was fairly curvy but not so that it slowed us down too much. On the way, we stopped to view the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. It is a strange greenish white color.

The village of West Glacier is very pretty. We stopped at the Alberta Visitor Center to get some maps and brochures and to check on RV parks. The staff there were extremely helpful. One of them even called an RV park to see if they had spaces for us. Then she handed the phone over to Barb to complete the transaction. We were very glad that we had gone in. They also have exhibits of Canadian animals, including a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton from the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology at Drumheller.

Before continuing our visit, we bought lunch at a deli across the street and sat on a bench outside to eat. It was an absolutely perfect day to be outdoors. This time there was only a gentle breeze.

Then we headed to the Lake McDonald Lodge to catch the boat tour on the ‘De Snet’ on Lake McDonald. Once again, we had a wonderful cruise. This lake is 75 feet deep with a water temperature of about 50 degrees. We saw a small school of fish beside the boat just before we left the dock.

On the way home we stopped at Goat Lick, which is on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Goats come here to lick the rocks for their salt. We saw only two mountain goats, however. The scenery was lovely.

When we got home, I hooked Sweet Pea up to Daisy so I won’t have to do it tomorrow morning when we head to Canada.
