We left in the rain for the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen (30 km north of Winterthur on the German border). Filled up the car with gas (first time this trip @ about $1.67 CDN/litre). It cost about $60 CDN to drive from Paris to Winterthur (approx. 600 km). So far driving seems to be economical for 4 people, and you get to stop and smell the sunflower fields occasionally... We'll see how driving with the Italians is though? We made Rhine Falls (which obviously is on the Rhine River that runs out of Lake Constance or Bodensee Lake). The castle was closed (go figure, 600-700 year old castle and the Swiss wait until we visit to renovate) but we took the boats out to the falls and centre rock to observe from. Not much English information available, but I believe the biggest falls in Europe...? Having just come from Niagra Falls, Tanya and Chaelle thought a bit small though, yet pretty ;-) Returned home with a short pitstop to smell and photograph a sunflower field. Obviously my idea (as opposed to Tanya's) to slam on the breaks on the A4 highway and veer off an offramp to locate the farmer's field. After completing a few laps on a rural round-a-bout, we made it home through the maze of one-way, sign-ridden, Winterthur streets to my awaiting Swiss beer and cookies that Corinne brought home. (It was almost like a stereotypical Swiss commercial that we all dream of...) Off to Italy tomorrow so not sure when next update will be or whether there will ever be another update? We should be back in Winterthur by about the 26th of July to see Nicole.
