As we will be using
Leh as a base for excursions in
Ladakh over the next several weeks, we spent today visiting outdoor sports outfitters and inquiring about the potential treks and other outdoor activities in the area. During the day, we had the good fortune of meeting a couple of college students from Florida, Matt and Sarah, who also wanted to do the Markha Valley trek, Ladakh‘s most popular trek. Together we organized a 7 day trek in in
Ladakh's Markha Valley with a locally-based trekking outfitter, Footprint Himalaya. Beginning on June 24, we will spend 7 days trekking through the Markha Valley. Our trek will begin in Zinchen and end on June 30th in Hemis.
Leh is a nice city which appears to have retained much of its traditional character, and the surrounding environs appear to be absolutely beautiful. Tomorrow we will go out and begin to check out some of the local sights.
