|4th July Since the President of Honduras was overthrown in a coup de tar? it was recommended that we do not go to Honduras as we may not get out if violence and civil disturbance breaks out so we opted for the beach! San Juan Del Sur offered opportunities to surf and see turtles come on to the beach to lay their eggs. When we arrived we headed straight to the beach (via a 45min truck journey) the beach in question was "the one for real surfers" and indeed there were experienced surfers out there on the large waves. After a swim around it was a beach BBQ and game of volleyball to help the food go down. Later that evening we went for a few beers as there was some sort of celebration (American liberation from the English day?) This was achieved via songs on the beach. 5th July Beach for beginner surfers. The day was spent surfing and lounging around on this beach. We were later picked up with all our wet clothing and books (big wave came right up the beach and caught us off guard). Several of us had opted to see the Turtles lay their eggs on the beach at ...... The journey was not pleasant as it was late at night, on a bad dirt track, lasting 1hr30 on a hot stuffy jeep. However, it was a magical experience and one that not many people are lucky to see.
