We are off this morning for Seattle,WA. We have been here several times before. Our friends moved here in 1995. We have been up to visit quite a few times, each time we come they always plan something different for us to do. But for some reason or another we have never been to Pikes Fish Market.
I have watched on TV the show about the fish market. The way they carry on and the throwing of the fish, so this trip I wanted to get this in. So today it's just about the Fish Market and all that it entails.
The drive down is very uneventful until we hit traffic. We are bumper to bumper for 30 miles or more. I can't believe the traffic here. This goes on even after you get off the interstate. When we get to town, I think things are even worse with the traffic. We look for a place to park. All the parking lots are full. Some of the prices for parking are unbelievable. All day is $36 and the afternoon special is $12. We finally find a parking place on the street. For 2 hours, the parking was $5. The street we parked on was Madison Street. This was easy to remember since one of our grandchildren is named Madison.
We find a very nice place for lunch and the food is delicious too. The name of the restaurant is McCormick & Schmick Seafood Restaurant.
The Pikes Fish Market is just a few blocks away. When we get to the fish market, there are so many people around, it's hard to get a good view of whats going on. We work our way closer so we can see when they throw their fish orders. They usually yell real loud when they are about to throw a fish. I never could get a picture of a fish in the air, just picture of them getting ready to catch fish. They sell every kind of seafood you might want. Crab legs are the biggest I have ever seen. The prices are high too.
They sell every thing at this market. There are all kinds of little stores that sell other kinds of foods. There are gift shops, clothing, souvenir shops, you name and it was here.
We walked by way of the waterfront to get back to our car. Bob told me, "He had been to the Midway of the Fair and he didn't want to go again". It was really that bad.
We did drive by to see the space needle and went to a dock to look at some boats. We got back on Interstate to go back to Bellingham. Needless to say, traffic was worse going back than when we came down. Reminds of the traffic in LA.
The day was an adventure, with the traffic and all the people in downtown Seattle. It was good to get back to the motorhome in one piece.
Tomorrow we are going to a working farm. They grow just about everything. We are looking forward to this.
RAMBLING ALONG......
