Weekend has fast approached. Seeing Yat doesn't have to go to work for a change, we decided to embark on some excursion to see more of Skane. We've chosen the island Ven because… a) it's always exciting to go on an island, all the boat trip etc; b) we want to go to swim in the sea and a beach on an island just sounds so much better; c) Ven is pretty closed to Lund and it only takes 1.5 hrs.
Ven is a beautiful island. The weather was gorgeous and there were a fair few people cycling around and coming for a day trip. The island was pretty close to Denmark, as we found out shortly after we landed, the mobile phone was already picking up Danish signal instead.
We took the bus first to the other end of the island to have some late lunch/early dinner first. We found this local fish restaurant/shop that reminds me of the one in the south tip of Skane (the most southern point of Sweden) The food was pretty nice and it was very pleasant to be able to sit in the cosy terrace with a view of the harbour.
After food, we went to lie on the white sandy beach with the occasional dip in the water. The water was pretty ice cold at first but once our bodies have got used to it, it felt pretty warm. This is the first time I have swam in the sea in Sweden! I thought given it was so cold to swim in Bournemouth, the Baltic will be unswimable. But to my surprise, it actually feels warmer than Bournemouth! It must be because the island was on the Danish/Swedish channel.
We got kind of bored pretty quickly and decided the best use of our time before the last boat back to mainland was to walk back to the other side of the island where the ferry terminal is. I was so pleased that we choose to do that because the surroundings feel very different when you are walking to when you are on a bus. It always feels a bit surreal when my feet are not firmly on the ground and that I cannot stop and smell and touch the wild flowers and other random things.
The walk back to the ferry terminal was very pleasant. The walk reminded us of our trip years ago to the Greek island Santonrini, my favourite holiday of all time!
We caught the 8pm boat back to mainland and spent the rest of the evening chatting and sipping wine… just like all the previous evenings.
