We were on our way by 8.30am and drove to Halls Creek for petrol and lunch. Very basic lunch of pies, sandwiches and burgers.
We kept driving past beautiful sceney of escarpments and red dirt with greenery interspersed here and there.
We arrived in Fitzroy Crossing at 5.30pm and there was a stall called Outback Pizza so we decided not to have the bbq we had planned but woodfired pizzas for dinner. The guy there knew Darron and was very complimentary. We enjoyed the delicious pizzas but not the flies they were horrendous. After eating, filling the car with petrol and having a quick drive to the town centre we were back on the road at dusk. We had midges and mozzies and flies to contend with and after awhile I even resorted whilst driving to squash them.
We had all four children asleep by 7.45pm and Sean and I drove on chatting about our new adventure and what we needed to do. We were then surprised by a huge and I mean huge brown cow in the middle of the road. Even though I knew I was not meant to swerve I did whilst applying the brakes and with Sean shouting at me not to swerve I missed the cow and kept us on the road still travelling with out any extra fur!!! On hindsight, I did the right thing as just applying the brakes we would have been totalled!!!
So shaking and very alert we kept on driving till we were 40kms from Broome town centre. Again, as all cp's would be closed at 10.30pm we stopped at a rest stop and Sean and the girls slept in the van whilst Liam and I slept in the car......
I now do not worry about the kangaroos but the enormous number of cows on the road!!!
