Fishing on the Kenai River
Just past Kenai and Nikiski is Captain Cook State Recreation Area. Notice “Area” not “Park” – maybe because it is big and they allow neat stuff like 4-wheeling on the beach and the carrying of guns. Alaska is BIG and they can do stuff like that here. The RV parked in front of the pole barn is at my (cousin) Tim Debilt’s property in Soldotna where we spent the night. The concrete slab is for his log cabin. Soldotna is pretty good sized and has a very nice Fred Myers store. They discount their gas and are RV friendly by providing overnight parking and free dump station and water – watch out Walmart your competition is here!
