I took the walking tour of downtown today. Had a great guide and got a better idea of life in Dawson. We got to go in some of the old buildings - the bank, post office (looked like the one in Colfax when I was a kid), and a saloon. You can almost imagine being here back in the summer of 1898 when this was a town of 30,000 people. There are about 2,000 now, but it did get down to about 400 after the rush.

If you're in Dawson on the solstice, the thing to do is go to the top of the Dome (hill above town). I heard it gets really crowded up there on this night, and since it's hard for me to stay awake, we went up this afternoon. What fantastic views!! Maybe tomorrow night... You can watch the sun go down and soon come back up.

Just to let you know, it's light all the time now. Even the couple of hours when the sun is not up, there is light so it never really gets dark. It hasn't bothered me yet. I like getting up early and having the sun up.
