| 6/17 – Awoke and hunted down breakfast at a local Jack In the Box while the girls went lap swimming with Mom. After breakfast, we got in touch with Sam and Lisa (Erika’s brother and sister in law), stopped by their home (very nice) to borrow Boogie boards and hit the beach in Oceanside. June gloom is still in full swing and we did not see the sun until around 2:30. I boogie boarded and went for a walk with Erika Sue and Aspen. Mom relaxed on the beach as it was too cool for her to enjoy the water. We had our “Baywatch” moment when Aspen cut her foot on some boulders and Mom took her to the lifeguard tower for first aid. We returned to the hotel and got cleaned up, walked the hotel grounds, then went to dinner with John and Dannette Gates and 2 of their 3 kids. We went to Islands in Mira Mesa (just up the street from where we used to live) as their kids went to hockey practice across the street. We had a nice visit and caught up after not seeing each other for a few years. We returned to the hotel and called it a night early. We have arranged to extend our stay through Thursday night and are excited about the fact we will not have to move our things tomorrow. Some general observations and comments: Aspen does not like high tide, "It causes you to move your stuff." John Gates has been featured in several major newspapers for his creative use of Twitter to market his resort hotel. I believe I have gained 12.1 pounds in the last 5 days from all the good food although boogie boarding today did burn some calories. |
