El Cid

On Thursday June the 4th we finally left LaCruz. We had become some what of a permanent sight on the dock and were on fist name basses with the staff and the boat cleaning boys. Though sad to leave it was time to get going. After being dock bound for so long we traveled only 15 miles to Punta De Mita as a warm up for our fist day. This very rolly anchorage with strong surf pounding it beaches was home for only one night. With in 20 minutes of setting the anchor some fool in a power boat ran over our brad new $45.00 anchor marker and of course the rest is history. I hope it wrapped around his prop. We did not attempt a beach land after watching the local fishermen running the surf crests ,we stayed dry aboard Babeeze. Friday we motor-sailed 35miles to the small cove of Chacala . Our book said this anchorage is very comfortable , and the swell is little more than a “pleasant message”. Well I for one found the message more like a beating. We lowered the dinghy and attempted to go ashore to check out the town. However the dinghy dock was so full of pongas beating into each other in the strong surf that we choose not to be pounded to bits, so we had to settle for a ride along the shore with its many towering coconut palms , that was all we got. After returning to “Babeeze “ we decided to make tracks over to Matanchen Bay were San Blas is located. This large shallow bay was like swimming in a bath tub and after spending two less than restful nights we decide to deploy a stern anchor . We spent a couple of days here swimming and enjoying the local people.

Monday we left for Isla Isabella but having favorable winds we blew right on by enjoyed sailing on a beam reach at 6+ knots for a good 8 hours. 26 hours later and 144 miles we arrived very tired at ElCid in Mazatlan. This beautiful modern marina surrounded by manicured grounds 2 pools ,a hot tub and several hotels is the place to be on there hot days. Most mornings we are having coffee in the pool by 8am and go home today some work on the boat and return again at 4 for happy hour.. ElCid is the home of many colorful Iguanas we saw 13 at the same time the other day. They can be a bit of a pest climbing up on the lounge chairs and helping themselves to your lunch if your not careful. There are many beautiful spices of bird here from the tiny humming birds to huge blue herons . The waters are teeming with many kinds of tropical fish and its fun to feed them bread crumbs and watch them go nuts. Tuesday and Thursday night are movie night here, a sheet strung between two coconut palm is the screen and we lounge on the pool chair. I think this is the first open air movie theater I have been to since drive in theaters.

Babeeze will stay here for the next two months as we fly home to Canada June the 20th.It is a whole lot of work to put all the systems to bed and to pray that there will be no hurricanes while we are away, it’s a tough life this life as a cruiser.

I hope to see many of you while we are home .

Hug and kisses

Rene and Eva
