Volcano eruption in the distance

Not sure exactly what to do after our time in the Galapagos, we asked a few travellers on our cruise and the recommendation was for a place called Banos. I had a few reservations as it was supposed to be a little touristy, but needed have been concerned as it was very dead there. We had also been told the nightlife was cranking there so were disappointed after arriving with high expectations and finding that all the bars were closed all weeekend because of the election!! You couldnt even buy booze from the supermarket, although the restaurants came through with the goods.

Banos is situated in the middle of a spectacular valley and has heaps of outdoors activities. To appreciate the scenery we hired a quadbike one day to go up the top of one of the mountains (and even saw part of a volcano explosion). This thing had more grunt than any scooter we have hired before, and Chris took great pleasure in making the most of it! The next day we hired a buggy to see another part of the area, not so much grunt but still capable being thrashed on the road....lots of fun and luckily no accidents!
