As we passed through Machias, ME we stopped by the Margaretta Days...

It commemorates the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War 234 years...

There were many people in period costumes, encampments, re-enactments, and old time...

There is also a nice water fall right in Machias.

Beautiful bay at a roadside park north of Whiting, ME.

(Ron Writing) This morning we cleaned the condo, laundered the linens and left Winter Harbor after two relaxing days. The sky was clear this morning and the weather was perfect. Unfortunately the weatherman says it’s not going to last.

We headed north on US-1 and US-1A staying right along the coast. It’s a very scenic route through many small towns and forest land. One man I visited with at church last Sunday is a retired forest ranger and he told me that Maine is 95% forest! It looks like most homes in the rural areas and even small towns heat their homes with wood. We see huge piles of firewood by so many homes.

We made stops in a few towns along the way to enjoy the scenery and the beautiful weather. We also crossed the 45th parallel so we are now a little over half-way from the equator to the north pole!

Late this afternoon we arrived in Calais (KAY-les) which is right on the Canadian border. We are parked at Wal*Mart for the night.

When I tried to get on the internet I was unable to connect even though I get a strong signal. After much troubleshooting I think the problem is that I’m getting a signal from a Canadian cell tower and my modem is refusing to connect to it. We’ll have to post this later when we get back on-line.
