A visit to see one of the most famous artworks in the world, Leonardo da Vinci's fresco masterpiece 'The Last Supper' - housed in the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. It is one of the oldest tourist destinations in the world. 'People crossed the Alps on the back of mules etc. to go there since the 16th century.' It has earned a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Walking tour. Visit the glamorous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele shopping gallery and the medieval Sforza Castle built in the 14th century, tour the breathtaking Duomo, one of the world's largest, most striking Gothic cathedrals. Some 135 spires and 3,200 statues are crammed onto the roof and into the facade. Visit the fabulous La Scala, one of the world's best known opera houses.
In the city centre as a testament to Milan's history stands the Sforzesco Castle. For years it was home to the mighty Sforza family, and for a number of years hosted Leonardo Da Vinci while he lived in Milan. Now it is used for cultural occasions and is full of civic museums - including but not limited to the museum of musical instruments, the museum of furniture, the museum of egyptian artifacts, museum of archaeology, museum of modern art, (ceramics, glass) museum of textiles, etc.
