Voyage of the Wayward Wind - 2009 travel blog

Sunday May 31 to Sunday June 7, 2009

Traveling east from Hannibal, we sopped in Indianapolis Sunday evening to visit with Ruth Snyder and her friend Neil. Ruth has been a friend of Drew’s family since before he was born. Ruth & Neil have a cat and a dog who very graciously allowed Dipt to come inside and visit, also. We stayed the night at the Elk's Lodge in Greenfield, IN, just east of Indianapolis.

Monday as we were heading to PA, we drove along Tappan Lake northwest of Cadiz, Ohio. It was beautiful! We’d like to go back some time and find a place to park for a few days to just relax and enjoy the lake and dense forest. By evening we’d arrived at Greendale Tavern east of Kittanning. Our friends, Larry and Mary Boyer, own the establishment, and we parked in their lot for a couple of nights so that we could catch up with them since we hadn’t seen them in nearly two years. They’d had two marriages and a death in the family since we were last together. The second evening, after dinner at their home, we learned to play Scrabble Slam. It was a fun, fast-moving card game.

From there we headed to the mountains west of Harrisburg, PA, to a little burg called Loysville where we joined 16 other rigs from a couple of Good Sam groups for a weekend campout. Ten of the rigs were from the Traveling Americans group which we belong to and the rest were from a group whose home base is the Fredrick, MD area. One of the couples in attendance was Bill & Rita Fordham who have just become full-timers. Again we had a lot of rain, but we still enjoyed a great weekend with old friends as well as newcomers to the group.

Now, it’s back to Silver Spring to see son, Matt, and the many friends we have in the area, as well as tend to several business issues and a number of medical appointments for Marti. Have I mentioned that it is hot, humid, and rains a lot???
