Wednesday, June 3rd we had a leisurely morning and then decided to head south towards Cantwell to see if "the mountain" was visible, since the sky was so clear at the campground. It turned out to be beautiful. Totally clear what a sight! We took at least 40 pictures of Mt. McKinley, several at every pullout..........
Made it back for dinner and then decided to drive through Denali National Park, the first fifteen miles are accessible by car after that you must take a tour bus or have a special pass. We drove about 10 miles in and hadn't seen an animal. Drove over a rise and there was a ranger's truck with lights flashing and a camper and a couple of cars pulled over. i quickly buckled my seatbelt in case is was a safety check, but was shocked to hear them say a grizzly had just crossed the road with a moose calf in its mouth. They had been watching for a few minutes and the bear moved from view into the trees. All the excitement and we didn't see it, Janet was glad not to see it.
Today we took a back country ATV tour! We were on a Yamaha Rhino, side by side, two seater. And what a time we had. We had to shower when we got home because of the dust. Saw a couple of moose, but with all the noise we made, I'm surprised we saw anything. Quite a trip though. Came home as fast as we could to try to catch any part of the Magic game, but had to settle for play by play on the ESPN website. Go Magic, sob, sob........
Tomorrow hopefully we can get our flight over Mt. McKinley and or our rafting trip on the Nenana River. We'll see.........
