Shared Ride Services:
GO Airport Shuttle: Typical cost from FLL to downtown Ft Lauderdale hotels is $11-18 per person. Typical fares from FLL to Port Everglades is $11 per person.
Taxis:
Taxis are always available on the lower level outside of each baggage claim area. Just check in at the Transportation Podium and the attendant can help you out. This airport is not as large or busy as Miami's airport, so you should have no problems getting a cab quickly.
The standardized taxi rates are $2.50 for the first 1/6 mile and .40 cents for each additional 1/6 mile, OR per minute of waiting time. There is a $10 minimum fare for trips that begin at the airport. Estimated taxi rate from FLL to Port Canaveral is $9, and from FLL to downtown Ft Lauderdale hotels is $10-15 total.
Fares do not include a tip, plan to give around 15%. If you are a family of 5-6 people, ask the Transportation attendant about finding a large taxi like a mini-van, since costs are PER CAR, not per person.
Rental Cars:
If you are flying into Fort Lauderdale and will need a rental car, you can easily rent a car at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. Most of the major car rental companies are represented on-site at FLL. You can find their counters in the airport's new Rental Car Center. The airport directions to the center are as follows:
"Passengers arriving at Terminal 1 should follow Rental Car Center signage to the Concourse B Pedestrian Bridge, located near the Concourse B Security Checkpoint. Passengers arriving at Terminals 2, 3 and 4 should follow Rental Car Center signage to the passenger pick-up area for free shuttle bus service, located on the baggage claim level. Look for the shuttle buses which will deliver you to the Rental Car Center."

Never show up at a car rental counter without a reservation. You can save a considerable amount of money by comparing companies first and making a reservation in advance.
Do your research in advance and find a good company with low rates. Go ahead and make a reservation, you can always cancel it if you find a better rate elsewhere.

Check with your hotel to see if they offer free airport shuttle service for guests. If so, ask them for detailed information about pick-up times and locations.
