As we travelled west the landscape became more interesting. We see the Mesas in the distance and the different levels of the earth, each a different color, which are beautiful. I loved western movies when I was a kid and I can image the Indian’s on the mesas and the wagon train circling below.
We are in Bluewater State Park somewhere east of Gallup. It was 35 degrees this morning...burrr......The weather changes every 5 minutes. Windy, rainy, sunny and more wind. The fire’s warmth is blown away before it can reach us. Beautiful mountains, lake and canyon views. We have a great view of Mt Taylor which is 10,301 feet. The park has plenty of improved sites but the local’s favorite site is to pull up to the edge of the lake and set up camp. The Horse Hotel just outside of the park sells firewood, local jewelry and they really do have a horse hotel. This area is very popular for horse ridding and they need a place to sleep too.
There is a 300 ft deep canyon created by a small stream that flows from the lake. We hiked down and back about 2 miles. The elevation here is almost 8,000 feet and we were doing some serious huffing and puffing!! The rock formations are phenomenal. Back to my western move theme, I’m sure the bad guys hid out here and put the REALLY bad guys on the ant piles that are everywhere.
