David and Elaine's 2009 'Somewhere Else' Roadie travel blog

Cedar Key to Ozark, Alabama. Why? Princess can only eat the Kroger brand of peanut butter because is contains no additives.. "Contents: peanuts and salt." Additives in other brands cause problems. We had run out of the zillions of jars we bought on the way to Astor, so I did a Google search and found the closest Kroger to be in Ozark. Lesson learned.. wear my glasses when doing Google searches. The "Kroger" we found in Ozark turned out to be a Kroger Automotive. Bad news, no peanut butter (Elaine's journal comment.. ("David is still tired and easily frustrated".. she's such a sweetheart). Good news, we came across "Ozark Travel Park" which is rated in the top 100 campgrounds in the U.S. - for good reason. The place was very, very nice. Dined at Applebee's where woman working bar suggested we go to "Rodeos" for a drink; a Mexican place that, other than Applebee's, was the only game in town ("Sweetie, you just GOT to try their Texas Margaritas").

When we got there the mariachi band had finished playing (nobody in the restaurant) but was in the back serenading the guys working in the kitchen. Really sounded neat and we listened for about 1/2 hour. After they were finished, I slurped my third margarita while being entertained by the kids in the kitchen having a water sprayer and flyswatter fight. Was neat.

We stayed another night due to some of the heaviest rain I have ever seen. Absolute torrents, which, by the way, was the same storm that headed SE and blasted Astor. That night (Sunday) back to Applebee's where we had a delightful chat with a HUGE MP from Ft. Rucker and a young lawyer who had been a theology major and was working the bar as a side job. His wife teaches Shakespearean Literature.. go figure. His margaritas, by the way, were not quite as good as those at "Rodeos" (not serving alcohol on Sunday), but by the fourth try were darn close.

Back at the campground, chatted with a Apache helicopter instructor from the fort. Interesting guy.

Off to Natchez Mississippi..
