So.. Here we are finally on the road. For the past few months we've been refitting the 1973 Argosy "Minuet"

to accommodate two gimpy old people with different living needs and sleeping habits. We stripped out the single bed (history of the camper later..the interior and exterior have evolved over the years as different needs and uses presented themselves) and put in bunks, purchased an AC unit, and made a few other interior modifications to make things suit our style. Unseasonably hot weather in Astor, Florida delayed our getting on the road as it was almost impossible to work outside in the 100+ temps for more than a few minutes at a time.

But, tired but excited, we left Astor today and went to one of our favorite places, Cedar Key, to rent a room, have a good dinner, and "chill" for the evening. Sort of a shame we were so tired. Our water view room at the Island Inn was quite nice, but we conked out early. Our trek to points west has started.

Leaving the next day we passed one of my favorite old spots along the Suwannee River. This is where I had an encounter with a 45 ft. alligator (as it seemed) while paddling my kayak in 1998. The original "Bill's Fish Camp was one hellava party place on Sunday afternoons.
