Cruising the Caribbean! travel blog

Hella and Finn

Downtown Uppsala

Hella's townhouse

On the spur of the moment or nearly I decided to fly to Sweden from New York! There are some very cheap airfares at the moment. I have quite a few friends in Sweden because of sailing on Jennifer for the last two northern summers so decided it would be fun.

The contrast with the Caribbean is stark and makes it even more enjoyable. It is spring and the weather is beautiful. The green is so intense and the days are already long.

Uppsala is quite close to Stockholm airport so Hella picked me up and I stayed the weekend with her. Our friend Finn also drove over from Gothenburg.

Hella is a Specialist Surgeon and will visit me in Australia in September after a conference in Adelaide at which she is giving a paper. Uppsala is a beautiful town and was the home of Carl Linne the famous Swede who created the classification system for living things! It also has a very famous Medical University and a lot of research is done here. The discoverer of the Lymph system also lived in Uppsala. His name was Olof Rudbeck.

Both discoveries happened in the late 1600's.

So we have all learnt something today!
