Living Our Dream travel blog

We had a long day today! Around 400 miles from Cottonwood AZ to Daggett CA. We followed I-40 which follows the old Route 66 and is a very scenic drive. There was not much traffic on the Interstate so the driving was easy. We saw mostly semis and very few RVs on the road. We had no incidents and a smooth ride.

Matilda did try to get back at us once. She told us to turn one way and pointed the other. We guess she is entitled to that after we belittled her so.

We pulled off the highway at Daggett and were heading to a park near Calico which is a few miles off the road and up in the hills but we found one in Daggett and the price was about the same as the one we were headed to so we stayed. It is a dump and too expensive but we are in California so everything is expensive. The park apparently caters to itinerant workers and some of the rigs are pretty beat up. We also saw quite a few young kids. Fillmore went outside on his leash and apparently a neighborhood dog took exception and they had a bit of a spat.

We set up with wind gusts of up to 45 mph which was no fun. JoAnn nuked some leftovers for dinch and during dinch the wind got so excited that we decided to pull in the slides. According to the local weather, the winds are due to subside later this evening.

We plan to leave early again tomorrow morning and drive to Coarsegold CA where we will stay in a SKP park for a few days. It sure would be nice to be an Elk member when we are touring like this so we wouldn’t have to pay obnoxious rates for a dumpy park. Maybe we can find a place to settle long enough to get that taken care of.
