I have to admit that I messed up the travel plans big time in Sulawesi. Stuck in the middle of Sulawesi, miles from Manado from which flights were booked for 3 days time. The lack of tourists since the conflicts and travel advisory means that pretty much the only affordable means of transport is a public bus. I checked out flights - from the only location with an air strip (Palu) - and the cost was prohibitive. No VIP/air con buses here. Private car hire is in reality a beat up van, again at high cost. I thought about using a ferry, but heard horror stories about people waiting a week in a tiny village for the next ferry out. So it was public bus. Day 1 was a minivan ride from Tentena to Posa, then a bus through the night to Pula. Day 2 was 28 hours from Pula to Manado. Hideous......
