We are now in Williams, Arizona, the gateway to the Grand Canyon.

A small route 66 town which continues to thrive due to its proximity to the Canyon. The Grand Canyon Railway also is stationed here along with Grand Canyon Hotel and RV Park which is where we are staying. We didn’t take the train ride as we did a similar trip a few days ago.

We had an early start, the hotel had dog boarding attached so we booked Poppy in for the day. We spent the morning walking the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We got there early enough to avoid the tour bus crowds and had lunch in a restaurant perched on the edge. That is some big hole and I think we will pay another visit, maybe by helicopter, when we are in Vegas later in the month.

In the afternoon we took a trip to Arizona’s highest mountain to catch a chairlift to the peek at 12000 feet. Unfortunately the timing wasn’t good as there was not enough snow to ski but still too much to enable safe walking so the chairlift was closed. So we just had a quick look around the ski resort trying to imagine it covered in snow!
