From April 22-29 I was on the island of Rarotonga staying in a nice guesthouse with about 10 other people. We shared bathrooms, a kitchen, living room and patio. The beach was a few minutes walk away.

I didn't do a lot, which is exactly what you're supposed to do on a tropical island. The island is round and 32 kms around, with one main road going along the shore. There is a bus going clockwise, and another counter-clockwise... once an hour. I managed to go into town a few times, for example to check out the market on Saturday. I swam in the lagoon (which isn't very deep so you have to wait until high tide to swim), and rented a kayak for a couple of hours one day. On the Sunday it was pouring rain all day, so I went to church. :-) And had to walk the 3 kms back in the rain. I was able to stop for a cappuccino fortunately! I went to an Island Night which is basically a big buffet dinner of island foods followed by a show of local dancing and singing. Good fun. Those Cook Islanders are very energetic dancers.

I had some good meals, including one at an Italian restaurant (with the owner hailing straight from Milano) that had only six tables and where you absolutely needed reservations.

On April 29 I took a 50 minutes flight to the outer island of Aitutaki.
