Camel in Norseman

Down town Norseman

Nice easy day today. Left Southern Cross at 8.30 - arrived in Norseman at 2.00. Going slowly so as not to push Bessie (the car) as she has a long way to go. Felt much better today - really feels as though we have begun the adventure. Glad we got to Norseman early as we have watched the parade of other vans coming in since our arrival. We have yet again won the contest to being the smallest van and the only car that is not a 4x4! Do we care? Of course we don't - we are proud of our Bessie and Pumpkin. Had a look around town this arvo - small town but bigger than I thought it would be. Some would know that Norseman was named after a horse who was pawing the ground and in doing so unearthed a sizeable gold nugget. What I we didn't know was that the owner of the horse was from Scotland and was very proud of his Norseman beginnings so named his horse after the Norseman clan from which he came from! How cool is that (given my Scotish heritage) - and so me feeling the need to have a ride on good old Norsey. Longer day tomorrow as we begin our journey across the Nullabour. Probably won't get internet coverage so won't be able to post till we are in SA. Poor Ken has done all the driving today (he won't let me get behind the wheel) and so here we are 7.00pm and he is fast asleep in front of the telly!
