Finally, the day we have been waiting for has arrived! We get to travel to the Washington, D.C., area. We were both up early and were on the road well before the time John had hoped to get going this morning. I guess neither of us is very anxious. We said goodbye to the tackiness of Ocean City and headed west for the first time in a long time along Highway 50 which has been voted one of the nation's scenic highways in this area.

The scenery continued with a palette of shades of green. We passed fields of yellow flowers, which was not mustard. Before long we were once again crossing the Chesapeake Bay, but this time there was no wind and no long tunnel. Today was a lot less stressful crossing, even though it rained most of the way.

We picked up the beltway outside of Washington, D.C., and headed north to College Park, Maryland, where we are staying at the Cherry Hill RV Park. This park comes highly recommended by everyone who has visited the Washington, D.C., area. It is a gorgeous park and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Since we will be staying here through Memorial Day weekend, I made reservations months in advance, although right now, the park is only about a quarter full. The sites are all level and we are nicely spaced apart although there is a space right next to us that should it be filled would cramp us quite a bit. There are 19 washers and dryers in the laundromat here and we have cable and WiFi in our spot. We rate this park a 10.

One of the nicest features of the park is the easy access to all of the sights of Washington, D.C., utilizing the metro bus and rail systems. The bus will pick us up here at the park and deliver us to the metro rail stop so we will not have to drive anywhere.

Years ago, when we lived in San Jose, I worked for attorney John Marshall Collins, one of my favorite bosses. His wife, Zoe Lofgren, is a Congresswoman and her office has arranged several tours for John and I while we are in Washington, D.C., including the White House. We are so excited and grateful for this opportunity to see our Nation's capitol.

But not only do we get to go see wonderful things while we are here, John's sis, Pam, and her husband, Brent, are now living here in College Park. There are on a two-year mission with their Mormon church. We got to visit with Pam and Brent this evening and Pam made us pancakes with strawberries for dinner. We look forward to being able to visit with them over the next several weeks.

It has rained mostly non-stop the entire day but we would rather have a rainy, grey day any day than the hot, humid days we had while we were in Williamsburg.

I can't believe I am in Washington, D.C.!!!
