City of Tango!!! Of course I can do it.

Caminata in La Boca- Seedy area of BA

What a huge place Buenos Aires is- I always wanted to come here and I even thought I might live and work here, but after flying in and taking the bus through the suburbs, I realise there is no way- 12 million people and the place is massive. Still, I met Anna - still bumping into navimaggers and we traipsed around the city trying to find a hostel without the crazies and without too much noise as the first hostel was a nightmare!!see other entry for that story)

Anyway, we got to move and then went on a tour of every internet store in the city to try and dump all my photos- WHat a mission- they havn`t a clue and I was getting very stressed out with the guys doing it for me- not pretty! Then we decided I needed lunch in La Boca - the most colourful and touristic section of BA- well that stressed me out too as I couldn`t walk down the street without being hassled to go to this or that restaurant or this or that Tango show- STRESS!!! All I wanted was to sit somewhere relaxed and watch the people go by and the street dancers. Eventually there was success, but I really needed food by then.

Later we went shopping in the city`s major pedestrian street, where yet again I was getting harrassed by touts and the streets were jammed packed with people- I just dont think this is my scene, so I have to go now and have a few drinks in my nice quiet neighbourhood so I can relax and rid myself of this tension and stress.Tomorrow will be a better day.

I have been investigating flights back to Australia via half the rest of the world, but I have found one that I will get- I just have to decide exactly when I want to leave Santiago - must go fairly soon if I want to sunbathe in Tahiti and not get frozen in in Auckland. SO, If you are in my flight plan area, expect me some time in May- I will let you know specifically in the next few days- Get ready for a party- Camille, Diana, Tim, Paula, Liz, Gabe and Rach- I`m heading your way.

Buenos Aires has taken a turn for the better- We found a good bar and a great restaurant( dinner and wine only cost $6 for BOTH of us). I am starting to have some success in my missions as well. SO, I`m a bit happier about being here today. THere are loads of things to see and do in BA and now that I am a professional Tango dancer and wine swiller it is THE place to be.

Yet another great day in the city- we decided we needed to go back and actually take photos in La Boca- sit in a cafe and watch the dancers( and join in occassionally as well of course) just so we could enjoy the sunshine and great weather. I`m not sure Annas sock and andals was such a big hit, but what am I talking about fashion for????? I had to then go off and do the touristy sightseeing while anna wento off to meet Katie- It is great being able to just wander around the city by myself. I covered miles and did the japanese tour. Click take the photo and move on.

We met again in our `local`bar and who should walk in but George from the boat- This is amazing coincidences as I am sitting here with the three people that I have bumped into the most often in my whole trip and there they are all at once. Weird. Anyway, we decided to hit the private parties of the night club district- I think that we just looked like backpackers and they didn`t want scum like us there. Rejected, we found another Tango bar, where three drinks was about to cost $75... no thanks, so we bar crawled our way back home and all four of us tumbled out of the bars in the early morning...not quite prepared for another day.

A big night planned in BA is not necissarily that easy- WE all met up in Palermo- the happening yuppie handg out, and hit it off in a few good bars, but the moment we started to look for a club- there was a vacuum- just impossible to find, but the bars just aren`t picking up on this and there really isn`t the party scene I have been told about. I guess they are still in shock over the fire on NYE when 200 people died, but they really havn`t recovered and even I couldn`t get the party going( they turned the music off when I started dancing). `Oh well, Anna, Katie and I had a good time- George is still wandering around out there- we aren`t quite sure what he is up to.
