Cooking Class!!!!

Colin picked us up at the GH about 0930 and we walked into Old Town to meet his wife -Grace for a trip to the morning market.

Every morning, the farmers bring their fresh produce, meats, cheese, fish, etc to town to sell. We had a good time checking out the different food. It's a small market compared to some but the food was SO fresh - some too fresh - we got to see chickens being plucked. Oh joy!!

From there, we walked to their home for class - they live in a cute house just beyond the East Gate.

Today we made 4 dishes:

Kung Pao Chicken

Beef with Oyster Sauce

Stir Fried Local Veggies

Yangshou Fried Rice - my favorite - nice and light

These recipes were much less structured than recipes from previous classes we've taken. I felt it gives you more flexibilty with regards to the spiciness of the food and personal preference, also they stressed using what was in season.

We ate after each course was made. The food was simple and delicious.

If you get to Dali - look up this lovely couple and spend some time cooking!!!!
