Tikal

Tikal

We dove over the border after Easter in San Ignacio for a quick visit to Tikal in Guatemala. We just stayed here one night, at a lodge right next to the site. So we spent the afternoon and evening wandering around the site, first with a guided tour, then wandering around the last complex ourselves. It is a huge place and only a small portion excavated, The climbs up some of these temples (done on constructed wooden stairs to the side of them here, is more hair-raising than others, but the views over the jungle were great. Three of us stayed on to watch the sunset over the ruins, whilst others took a jungle walk back instead.

The next morning, we just had time for a few of us to do a canopy tour in the jungle. Basically a series of 9 zip wires through the trees, which after the first one, which was a bit daunting, was great fun! Then it was the long drive back to Belize City
