Today we woke up early and set off in the truck for Xunantunich. Just down the road using the hand winched ferry to cross the Mopan River.
The site has an impressive number of plazas and pyramids, with 'El Castillo', being the tallest. We climbed to the top and took a breather to take in the amazing views, over Belize and the Guatamalan border. We also saw a pair of small iguanas which I just about caught on film before they scurried away.
We then got ourselves back for a lovely bbq, 34C in the shade...and no sign of cooling down.
There was jerked up chicken kebabs, plantin (which is similar to banana) and red sweet potatoes, mmm mm! We cooked some of these in banana leaves for that authentic touch.
We are heading to Placencia early tomorrow morning to catch some rays on the Caribbean coast for a week, so the rest of the day will be spent taking it easy...hard life eh?
