We set off for Che Chem Hah caves, we went yesterday but there are only two tours a day, so the timing was out.
All the things we have done so far have been within a ten mile radius of my Uncle's house, it's amazing how many Mayan ruins are in this area, it is littered with them!
So, a mile later we arrived and waited for William the guide to show, luckily for us we were the only two going, so we had his full attention. Sometimes he can take parties of 15 in at a time.
After grabbing a hiking stick we set off on a mile trek uphill, through thick jungle. A path had been cleared but it was still a tricky climb, in mid-day heat that was touching 90F. On the way we saw a big snake, a not so big lizard, and a tarantula, William spotted these straightaway and we were thankful for that!
In the cave entrance there were more spiders, but no life once in the cave as it is dark and most animals prefer to be warm.
There were 9 levels to the cave and there were huge mayan pots that dated back 2000 years, still holding a strong blue colour, and some with the maize and wheat inside.
