(Leaving: Yosemite, NP, CA - Destination: King's Canyon NP, CA - 150 miles)

05:40 AM We have to rise early today, it is a travel day. We don't have very far to go but the roads look crooked and mountainous. We shower, dress and fix breakfast. We tidy up the cabin a bit, empty the garbage, pack our suitcases and then load the van.

08:55 AM We lock up and then leave our cabin in The Redwoods in Yosemite and head to the office to check out.

09:00 AM We leave the office and head for King's Canyon NP and the John Muir lodge.

09:10 AM We stop at the Wawona Store for another T-Shirt!

09:20 AM On the road, finally, to King's Canyon. We head south on CA Hwy 41.

10:40 AM We get to Fresno, Ca and get lost trying to find the road to King's Canyon, which is CA Hwy 180. They are building an interstate type connector to connect Hwy 41 and Hwy 180 but it is not finished. So we have to go through the city and have to stop and ask directions. It seems that everyone speaks some language OTHER than English and we have a hard time understanding the directions. We finally get on the right road and then find at a Wal-Mart and stop for some film and some cookies.

11:35 AM We are going again now on CA Hwy 180, the King's Canyon Highway.

12:10 PM We stop for gas at Squaw Valley, CA.

12:45 PM We arrive at King's Canyon NP and the John Muir Lodge. We are too early to check in, so we look for a picnic area to have some lunch.

01:20 PM We find a picnic table in the Grant Grove area and fix some lunch.

02:00 PM After lunch we visit the General Grant Grove of big trees. Here we meet up with 2 couples from Gardendale, AL (a suburb of Birminhgam). We talk with them for about 30 minutes and discover that we have a lot of mutual friends. It is good to see "home folks" way out here. After they leave we wander through the Grove, visit the General Grant Tree and many others. We make a ton of pictures but pictures can't really capture just how big these trees really are!

04:00 PM We leave Grant Grove to check in at the John Muir Lodge.

04:10 PM We check in and head up to the room. We have no TV, no Air Conditioning and no elevator, but the Lodge itself is new and very beautiful. Our room is on the 2nd floor with a nice view.

06:15 PM We walk over to the Grant Grove Village Restaurant for some dinner. We have an excellent meal. Our server is a young man named Greg from New Hampshire. He is excellent. We each get a cup of coffee to go and head back to the Lodge.

08:15 PM We take our time getting back to the Lodge. It is all so quiet around here!

08:30 PM We are back in the room. It is supposed to be in the 40's tonight so we don't think we will miss the Air Conditioner!

10:00 PM Lights out!
