Hello from the Roof of the World!!! Just a quick note to let everyone know that we have arrived safely in Lhasa, Tibet. We are staying at the Yak Hotel which has a fabulous view of the Potala Palace (the Dali Lama's residence) and have already eaten a Yak burger, Yak pie, and hot chocolate Yak milk. I think we will be eating a lot of yak here. We are really, actually here in Tibet - can you believe it??? We start touring tomorrow with our guide, a local Tibetan girl by the name of Tseki (pronounced like sticky) who speaks pretty OK English. We have to be careful here, there's military all over the place and we have been told not to wander the streets and stay in or close to the hotel when not with our guide. There's maybe 50 or 60 foreigners total in Lhasa right now, so we're definately not seeing a lot of tourism yet. I can't photograph much because we are not allowed to take any pictures with military in them or they will take my camera away, which is a bummer because every where you look there are police or soldiers, but any conditions to see Tibet is better than not getting to see it at all. We are still very excited to be here, and so far love Lhasa. It is beautifully located in a tiny valley with mountains all around. More later.
