Chuck & Jan - 2008 & 2009 travel blog

Had a big day today! We left Sedona at about 8:30, and arrived at Nephi about ten hours later. In between we saw some great country, and some not-so-great weather.

Anybody like me who has never seen a sand storm (up to today), can now think back to the last good old prairies ground blizzard they saw. Raise the ambient temperature to 50 F or so, and change the color of the snow to blood red, and you have a sand storm just east of the Grand Canyon. Thought the sand would remove the paint from the drivers side of my truck. The sand really does "hiss" as it strikes. We were slowed down to about 50kph for a time, and I drove with flashers on. Visibility was about 50 yards. Fortunately, it was only about 20 miles or so.

Later on, we went through a rain storm - not really a big deal, but the first rain we've seen since we left Calgary. I guess, actually, the last rain would have been about October.

Later on up Highway 89 we ran through a bit of snow. I think we were just a bit behind it, but did follow a snow plow for a while.

Anyway, when we jumped over to I 15, it looks like we might get some good weather til we get home. Let's hope so.
