The people, places and problems of a 1 year adventure. travel blog

So I spent a few days in Granada after the girls left which was nice.

Nicaragua loves their baseball so on the Sunday afternoon, a Canadian who I'd met and I cabbed it out to the baseball field (which had goats running around the outside of it. Very different to Fenway). It was Granada vs. Managua (the capital of Nicaragua) and apparantly it was a pretty important game. It was also a double header, and the first game Granada got anialated... which sucked. Anyway second game starts and by the start of the 3rd inning Granada are winning 9-0. Managua aren't too happy so at the first opportunity a fight breaks loose. It was the biggest fight i've ever seen in any sporting event EVER... even on TV. The whole Managua team jumped on one poor little guy, and obviously after that it turned into an all-in brawl. At one point there for 6 players swinging baseball bats at each other it was hillarious! The crowd started breaking cement off the stadium structure and throwing it at the Managua team, so the team started throwing it back at the crowd. I don't know how but I don't think anyone was seriously injured. Awesome entertainment and definitely worth the $3 to get in.

After Granada the Canadian and I (Tad) bussed it north to Leon, another spanish colonial town a little bigger than Granada. Really cool place but sooooo so so so so hot. We met some really cool people at the hostel, plus the Israeli girls came and met us there so we had a great little crew. We played a lot of cards becuase it was too hot to go out, drank a lot of cheap rum on the street outside the hostel because they kicked us out every night, and spent some time at the beach (which was a hell-ish hour bus ride each way). But had a really good time there. Beautiful city too with lots of huge old churches and cobblestone streets.

5 days later I left the gang and got a 12 hour bus ride out of Nicaragua and across Honduras to San Pedro Sula. Spend one night there on a mattress in the lobby of a hostel because they didn't have any beds left, and then caught a bus the next morning to La Sieba where I got on a boat and after an hour finally made it to my destination... Utila!

Utila is a gorgous little island in the Bay Islands. It is one of the cheapest places in the world to dive, and also one of the best. I've been here for a week today and done 10 dives and a lot of snorkelling. The people here are great, mostly tourists who are working as diving instructors or doing their course to become one. There is also a bar on the island called Treetanic which at the moment is listed by Lonely Planet as the second best bar in the world. It's literally a treehouse with raised walkways and mosaics everywhere it's so cool. Only been there once because I'm spending my money on diving not partying, which is well worth it. I've seen turtles, giant starfish, eagle rays, sting rays, dolphins, all sorts of amazing fish and really beautiful corals. And diving is just so much fun. I could live underwater I've decided.

And that's it! Tomorrow I'm leaving here (tear) and going to Copan to see the Mayan ruins. And then I'm not sure where to next, either travelling around Guatemala or going through Guatemala up to Mexico. Meeting Rosie in 3 weeks I'm so excited!!!
