Arizona Bound 2009 travel blog

Well we have really been on the move since we left Tucson. We travelled north in New Mexico. Lots of desert and rocks. Only if there is irrigation did we see things growing other than Juniper. We stopped in Sorocco for the night and did the Walmart thing - it worked really well. 6 other units were also there. We headed on through Albuquerque and started looking for gas almost too late! It was about 7am and nothing was open - stopped at a little place and the gas station was abandoned! You can always count on Rod - he had a little reserve gas in a can in the back of the truck! This got us to a real gas station and all was well. This was the beginning of bucking the wind and watching the weather web when we stopped at night. We travelled across the panhandle of Texas - a very barren area. On to Oklahoma and green grass even along the highway - mowed too. We stopped at a KOA campground at Clinton about 50 miles from Oklahoma City and spent two nights waiting out the thunderstorms and potential tornadoes in Oklahoma City. This area is the wind tunnel of the US and has the most tornado type of weather. Met people from Ontario and Michigan doing the same thing. This highway is also part of route 66. We then headed to Kansas- Wichita - the home of The Wizard of Oz and on to Topeka. Next on to Nebraska - stayed south of Omaha at Nebraska City. Corn country - even saw a corn harvester on a semi. Time for the hotel as we have winterized the trailer and put the freezables in the truck. Tonight we are at Watertown, South Dakota. 28 degrees F or -2 C when we arrived about 7pm. We hooked up the Internet and checked the weather again! I-29 to Fargo travel not advised- so we will head west from here and then go up to Jamestown, and onto Minot. This will be winter driving. We finally have to succumb to this! We also saw that travel out of Saskatoon is not advised. We had hoped that spring might be trying to peep out, but no such luck. That's all for now. Take care!
