Unfortunately, our time in El Salvador was hindered a bit as Jason had come down with a severe ear infection, something he had not had to endure for nearly three years now. We tried to use our time to rest and even began exploring options at pharmacies. However, nothing seemed to work for him. Nonetheless, we still were able to go out and explore El Salvador a bit. We based ourselves in the capital city of San Salvador, which along with Honduras, was another American fast food chain capital! Near our hotel, on a main street, there were literally 4 Burger Kings, 3 Pizza huts, 1 Wendy's, 1 Subway, 1 McDonalds, and many many more!!! No exaggeration!!

We took a day trip out to the Tazumal Ruins near Santa Ana. These Mayan ruins are considered the most important and best preserved ruins in El Salvador, and were very interesting to see and learn about. We also had the pleasure of visiting a local family, who are family of friends of Lorna's brother's family in Tennessee. This was a wonderful opportunity as we were able to explore a smaller town in the north of El Salvador, and were treated to a delicious home cooked lunch with the family!

Our few days in El Salvador quickly came to an end and before we knew it we were once again on a bus and riding through the gorgeous mountains heading into Lorna's former Peace Corps stomping grounds...the lucious land of Guatemala!
