Pattinson's World Tour 2008-2009 travel blog

Arrived Penang which was my first port of call in Malaysia. After arriving I read that the Home Office only recommend train travel in Southern Thailand and only under exceptional circumstances - ignorance is bliss - happy valentines day! The Cathey Hotel was typical ex colonial and ex decorator (probably since that era!) The room I had was vast with 3 beds and a double door that would not be out of place as an entrance to a castle. The bath room had a leaking toilet and a large gaping hole under the bath, where some plumber had started the job and given up. George Town was accessed over one of the longest bridges in the world and had an Indian, Chinese and Malay feel to the place (due to its rich history). Across the road was a Food Market a little like the type you now get in Shopping malls back home. You order your food from one of the kiosks and a waiter manages to navigate his way to your table somewhere among the vast array of diners. I had Japanese (Salmon Takiyaki? or is that Teriyaki?).
