Stairs to Buddha

Up at the top of the temple

Ok so I am a little behind but have to catch a bus soon so.. these next few are going to be brief!!

The overnight train to Cheng Mai was hilarious. To begin with I shared dinner with the only single man in my group- A very nice french man named Jacques, from Quebec.. who I will estimate at around 60 yrs of age! After that our group began to make friends with the train ladies and in the end.. Jacques and Cam (age 83- married to Marilyn who live in LA) were buying them beer and getting them drunk. The girls my age also drank and our end of the cabin became the rowdy area.

To our luck a handsome caucasian male walked through and we all noticed because A- white. B-he fit the age bracket. C- He was not a backpacker. This is a rare combo.

Because of our high energy levels at this point we went to the disco cabin and lo and behold found our man. In the end we found out he was from Belgium, imports and exports flowers from Bangkok where he lives.. and after opening his mouth lost his appeal (in my opinion). However- the lot of us learned how to dance from the drunk train ladies that made their way to the disco car and we all had a blast. I am still not sure if the one lady liked ladies or not but she liked hugging me, stroking my back and telling me she loved me- Hello Thailand- Awkard.

We arrived in Chang Mai and after quickly checking in went out for breakfast at a really cute (and clean) cafe and then went off to ride elephants! I rode on the elephants head while my supposed guide sat on the chair. I was doing fine until it wanted to walk down a steep hill into a stream where it then proceeded to cool itself (and me) down a bit but it was fun! Upon returning back to the town I had my laundry done:)

I then relaxed a bit and headed back to the cafe for lunch where I met up with Nicole (surprise) and we then went poking around some silver jewellery stores. That afternoon we took a bus up a very windy road, walked up 206 stairs and watched monks chant at a buddhist temple (supposedly i'm represented by the peace buddha because I was born on a Monday). From there we went to the night market and had a neat crispy noodle soup. Nicole and I then left for.. Starbucks:)

On the way she found a wallet at a knock-off store that makes products out of real leather and we were even allowed back into the private backroom where shiny lights and mirrors are... but that stuff was tacky sooo out we went.

My roommate for the night was a loud girl named jaclyn from Denver and although the names are similar.. that is where our similarities end.

The following day Nicole and I did a power walk and headed back to the cafe. I then sneakily left her and went back to the silver shop from the day before to buy her the cuff she wants which I'll give her as a thank you at the end of the trip. After roaming around and replying to all my Mom's emails:) I packed up and again met Nicole for lunch before we all headed to Chang Khong.
