|The boat ride from Siem Reap to Battambang was, as advertised, very beautiful! But, lovely as it was, we can only recall the length (9 hours) as we nurse our recovering backsides!
Battambang is a city slightly bigger than Siem Reap, but feels much smaller. Many of the city streets are still unpaved and the city center can easily be walked in a handful of blocks. While there's not a lot to do here, we have stayed a few days to plan our crossing into Thailand and how we will spend our time there. There's been a change with visas from Thailand and we can now only get 15 days at the land border vs. 30. We had planned to stay for 45 days so are still trying to sort out what this change means for our trip.
We'll be here while Obama is sworn-in. It's all over the news and internet and is really exciting. It may be the most patriotic I've felt, ever! Being overseas highlights how much of a change this signals for the US - one that is long overdue, but inspires hope (let's hope our man delivers). We'll be watching as much of the coverage as possible from our hotel.
