The day started with Susi meeting with one of the Board members. They are trying to arrange a building green seminar for builders. The focus would be on building green for the types of homes Habitat builds. There was one in Atlanta in February but the local Habitat leads were shut out. So the thought has been to try and bring it here since there is a lot of building going on the area of that type.

Dave, Sue, and I went to a new site which only had the pillars in the ground. The plan for the day was to build a storage shed, and complete the deck for the house. We started the day with several piles of lumber and by noon all of the floor joists were in place. The storage shed was mostly framed and cemented in the ground. It was amazing to see how much could be accomplished in such a short period of time. Hopefully the pictures will give you an idea of what was completed.

They built the frame and floor joists attached the posts before setting it in the ground. It was then set in the holes and squared. It was held in place with stakes. Then the poured concrete around the posts.

Sue, and a future home owner spent the day priming all the siding for the storage shed. Sue really got excited being able to work with these ladies and hearing their stories.

In the afternoon the decking was completed, the trusses and sheeting put on the storage shed, the siding primed. The porch joists and decking were nearly completed. Wow what a day!

The crew was made up of around 25 people. The majority of those were AmeriCorps volunteers and 4 Habitat staff. The staff did an excellent job of keeping everyone efficiently busy.

At the close of the day the staff held a completion for the AmeriCorps people. They were paired in to teams by the staff. Each person was given 6 16 penny nails. The in head to head timed competition each person of the team had to drive 5 of his or her nails. The winning team was determined by the best time. Hope some of the pictures give you and idea of the game. There were 5 teams of 2 persons each. The winning time was 1 minute and 1 second.

The have a competition on each Friday of the stay. Each test they can earn points towards getting their name placed on the golden hammer award. The last competition will be next Friday. They are to build a bird house which must be turned in by 8:00 am. Any late entries are declared ineligible. The winner get 750 points which is nearly enough for the last place person to win. I have included a picture of the score board.

We had a fantastic dinner at the Bay St Louis Yacht Club. The flounder absolutely melted in your mouth. Joining us for dinner was Wendy, her son Ryan, and Henry.
