Today we drove about 30 miles from Bend to visit the Smith Rock State Park. This park is like visiting a smaller version of the Grand Canyon. If you enjoy scenic views of deep river canyons or rock climbing, Smith Rock State Park is the place for you. There are several thousand climbs in the park. They also offer miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Along your trip through the canyon, you might see golden eagles, prairie falcons, mule deer, river otter and beaver. We saw some huge birds flying but did not get close enough to identify, but I think they were golden eagles.

There are so many trails to walk and places to explore. We chose a couple of them and were not disappointed. Both of the trails led to canyons with waterfalls and outstanding views. We found another beautiful place for our picnic and enjoyed it much. I took over 300 pictures in this park and will have a hard time deciding which ones to add. :-) I could not believe how high some of the people were walking. I did a few zoomed pictures to show you just how far away they were. This is an awesome park and we highly recommend it. You could spend weeks and not explore the whole park. More later from Bend.
