(Ron Writing) We left Rancho Cordova, CA this morning after a delicious breakfast. It was cloudy and a little foggy but actually a nice day for driving.
We drove south on Hwy. 99 to Bakersfield and then east on Hwy. 58. Once we left Bakersfield the ground fog kept getting more dense. The last 20 miles or so before Tehachapi we could only see a few car lengths ahead and slowed to about 40 mph which seemed to be the best compromise between the risk of going so fast we might run into a car in front of us and the risk of going so slow that we might get rear-ended. We were thankful that we made it safely to Tehachapi where we escaped the fog and enjoyed some sunny weather for the first time in several days.
We continued as far as Barstow, CA where we are spending the night at a motel.
