UNREAL

In the USA Lina and I spent our anniversaries in Solvang CA. This year being in Brasil we chose the MTS in Ubajara. Ubajara is 200 miles north of Teresina--a 4 hour bus trip. Some how or other, not being students of public transportation, we took a bus that made the trip in 8 hours. It stopped at every settlement along the way and picked up passangers waiting along the roadside. The route is not heavily populated and the scenery is much the same for most of the way (thick brush and some palms). There is an occasional clearing-perhaps a small farm or a modest residence.

When you look at the map- please do not be deceived by the distance between the cities shown. It is still another 200 miles from Ubajara to the ocean.

The Ubajara area is a popular tourist area. Large busses are everywhere. It is a busy place, but not overcrowded. The tourist season starts December 15.

We arrived at our hotel at 8 PM. After putting the luggage in the room, we had dinner under the jaca trees. Dinner consisted of chicken, rice and salad.

The hotel owner planted 6000 coffee plants on the hill behind the hotel. His mother, previous owner, planted mamy banana trees (see pics). He told us he uses all the coffee and bananas for the hotel.

The next 2 mornings we had a buffet style breakfast-- eggs- fruit- fruit juices- several kinds of breakfast sandwiches and cakes-cheeses- ham- coffee. After breakfast we walked to the local preserve (see pics). Lina said it was a half mile to the park --closer to a mile. At the park we treated ourselves to a coconut drink (a whole -green-coconut with a straw. 40 cents. One of the pavallion showed a movie which we watched. After that we walked to the cable car house that sends cable cars one mile down the mountain to a cave and hopefully brings them back.

I chose not to go to the cave. Since 9-11- I do not like heights--planes no problem. depth perception on a plane is much different than being on the groun lookin down one mile. Besides I would have wanted to see inside the cave---not condusive to wide bodies with artifical hips

Breakfast was the only meal for the day. I had a banana and some chips before bedtime.

Lina's cousin and her family came to visit. They invited us to their house the next day (Sunday)

The two breakfasts-the two night stay and the dinner was a costly $150 reals 71 American dollars

After breakfast Sunday we went to Lina's cousin house-enjoyed the never ending breeze--watcheo a thunder and lightning storm about 50 milesaway-- went to a Brasilian bbq in the afternoon-WATCHED THEIR DOG EAT WATERMELON-stayed the night-- went to the bus station after a wonderful lunch. This bus ride lasted four hours. It was a very comfy ride home.
