Hello Everyone!!

Thought I'd give you an update on our first month in Fernie. We're really enjoying it here, it's so hard to find a sense of community in a snow village and Fernie's just that. I think that's why so many people flock here over the winter season! There's a notable increase in population just over the last week - the ratio of guys to gals is now 3:1 as opposed to 10:1. All the local guys must hang out for the influx of chiki's over the winter!

We're starting to settle in and have a pretty decent household (there's 6 of us all together). We've got 2 single people (1 girl from Ontario and a guy from Melbourne) and a couple upstairs (Guy from Vancouver Is and the girl from Hervey Bay). We've had a few issues with the couple which we have hopefully smoothed over now but the 2 single guys are great. On top of all that - Laura get's here in a week! Crazy huh? It will be great to be able to show someone from home how great this part of the world is. We're so excited to have her for 3 months. Plus, there's heaps of visitors so it's going to be a bustling little house over winter!

We've had a dusting of snow (~8cm) over the last 2 weeks, barely enough to keep the mountains white but we live in hope. The season is meant to open on Dec 6th but it's not looking too good so far! Nothing like last season which broke record snowfall all across North America! That doesn't stop us looking up at the mountains that surround our house everyday, hoping they're covered in the white stuff! Yes, we're praying for pow as is the rest of Fernie-ites. Actually, there's quite a few locals who aren't interested in snow or winter sports which shows you how much more this place has to offer. If we were millionaires, we would definately buy a place here. It's just so beautiful!

I'm working at the one and only Physio clinic which is fantastic. It is so much better than Vancouver. My boss has been very specific in choosing practionioners that have empathy and are in it for their patients rather than the money. It's so refreshing to work with such knowledgable, motivated people. We also have weekly inservices (professional development) which is fantastic. If I ever owned a clinic, it would be very similar to where I'm working. There's a possibility that I'm also going to be the Physio for the local (ice) hockey team called the 'Ghostriders'. It's a junior comp with the boys ranging from 17 to 20. Everyone turns out for the home games, including the countless Australians which fill the beer drinking section and have a rep for being roudy drunks! But it'll be a great experience.

Zane has a sweet job for a union-run construction company working as a capenter. They're building new condo's just outside of town and he's enjoying the cruziness that comes with working for a union based company! He's on great pay and enjoys the work, although he's hanging out for the finer capentry side once the places are erected.

Since we've arrived we've celebrated our first Thanksgiving (where our flatmate/gormet chef made the best feast ever!) and Halloween (check out the photos!) which were fantastic!! Now we're hanging out for the next big events.. Laura's 21st AND our first white christmas! Other than Laura, we've got Bec (friend from the ville) coming for about a week and a half in early Dec (over Laura's 21st b'day); Brandi and Simon's wedding in Banff on Dec 14th (Zane's cousin for those that don't know); Warwick (Zane's best mate) and girlfriend Gill over for 3 weeks over Christmas and New years and then an influx of Vancouverites as the snow gets good in Jan/Feb! Zane and I are booking in to do a Backcountry/Avalanche course in Feb once our skills are a bit better so that we can do a bit more backcountry towards the end of the season.

I hope that you are all well, please continue to send us emails and stay in touch, we love hearing what you're up to!

love Christie and Zane
