We made it to Texas yesterday afternoon and stopped at the Wonderland RV Park, Amarillo, TX. This morning, we decided to take Livi for an outing and work off some of her pent up energy. We found a small Zoo that had lions, tigers, bears, and best of all, spider monkeys. This zoo even had a small playground for Livi to hang out in. So we spent a lovely morning looking at animals, running around and having our snack in the Amarillo City Zoo. It was the perfect size for us. It had enough cool animals to see but was small enough that when Livi had to go potty, we ran out to our own bathroom. Since we had arrived so early, we got to see the animals at their most active. The lions were trying to climb trees and the bobcats were wrestling. The servals were pacing and the spider monkeys were up to some hilarious monkey business. We spent quite a bit of time just standing there watching them. There was one that was pretty spastic and kept running around and jumping on the trees and ropes and climbing and sliding. First, he’d run and slide across the bridge, then he’d jump up on the tree, do a back flip and land on a limb, then he’d try to grab a rope, miss and swing from his tail frantically pushing himself to get a grab on the rope, sometimes missing and landing on the ground only to try again. Another monkey waded into the shallow pool to bathe, later sitting on the side, dipping his head in and grooming himself with his thumb less hand. Livi laughed a lot and we were all mesmerized by their antics.

Hopping back in the car, we drove on to Oklahoma. We ended up at Foss Lake State Park, hoping for a place to put our boat in and take a short ride. No such luck! It was way too cold and windy (50 degrees – HA HA)! We arrived in the afternoon and biked immediately to the playground to expend some energy. Livianna played by herself for a while and then I coaxed some other children to join in. Then we all played with Sierra, Hunter & Shay Stanbaugh. The best was the merry go round that was just the same as the one that I played on when I was young! So we horsed around and ran and chased and spun and generally got Livi and I tired out.

I’m getting really good at cooking just what we are going to eat! I made a half order of Beef Wellington and a half order of Italian Meatballs for tomorrow night. We also had grilled caramelized bananas with ice cream. Florian keeps mentioning going to a restaurant, but I am reluctant for 2 reasons: one, I cook better than most restaurants and two, what fun is it to chase a 3 year old around a restaurant???
